Private tutor in Evanston, IL
Education
Materials Science & Engineering graduate, 2010 University of Michigan - Ann Arbor
Experience
I am a University of Michigan Engineering graduate who moved to the area for work a little over a year ago. I plan on pursuing an MBA in the near future, so I figured this would be a mutually beneficial opportunity for me to teach while refining my own knowledge. As an engineer (by education and current profession), I have a strong background in pretty much all math and sciences (except biology, sorry). I have also had many classes in HS and college that were heavy on effective writing and speaking technique, both technical and creative. Throughout undergraduate, I had 4 different summer internships varying from manufacturing engineering to business accelerator intern for an economic development firm. I have also worked as a lab technician for a start-up biotechnology company, and have 2 years of undergraduate research experience in the Michigan electron microbeam analysis lab. Overall, I would consider myself very well rounded. I am a capable tutor, but I also believe that my experiences to date might be most beneficial to those seeking to prepare for life in general; before, during and after college. I can help in figuring out what degree might be a right fit, how to develop your course-path to most benefit your desired career or prepare your resume and for interviews. I was a member of the Michigan engineering mentor program and am still in touch with and assisting students who will be graduating soon and entering the work force. Families I used to babysit for have also recently began contacting me looking for advice on helping their children prepare for college.

Hobbies
I'd like to point out that I consider myself a very "relate-able" engineer. Too often, the term "engineer" carries the stigma of someone who is socially awkward or might lack interpersonal skills. I am not that type of person. I am a pretty normal person. I like to golf, snowboard, exercise, cook, snowboard some more, hike, kayak, etc. Even for students who might not be too fond of the idea of being tutored, I think my personality might bridge that initial resistance they have to the idea. What brought me to this site is a desire to share the mentor experiences I've gained from. I feel that I was fortunate enough to have been exposed to many positive role models throughout my life, between my parents and my neighbors, people who are all very successful in their respective careers. They taught me the importance of hard work and passed on a lot of their wisdom to me. It seems to have helped me so far in life, and I hope to share that knowledge with you or your children
