Experience
¡Hola! Bienvenidos a mi perfil. My name is Andrew and I am a recent graduate of University of Denver. There I received a Bachelor of Arts in both Spanish and International Studies. I was in my 6th grade introductory Spanish class where I developed a great passion for the language. From the start of our very first lesson, my love for Spanish was automatic. Never did I anticipate how much of an impact this passion would have on my future not only as a student but also an individual. Following my graduation from high school, I studied abroad in Cuernavaca, Mexico at the Cuauhnáhuac Institute of Languages and Cultures for three weeks. While in Cuernavaca, I lived with a lovely host family, and therefore had the opportunity to advance my Spanish language skills even when not in the classroom. In college, I traveled to Lima, Peru, to study abroad for a full academic year. In Peru's capital, I was fortunate enough to live with two different host families and study at the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru where I attended classes with Peruvian students. While studying abroad in Peru, I volunteered as an after-school tutor for kids and young adults of all ages for Building Dignity, a non-profit organization based in Lima. Currently, I am substitute teaching at a local high school. Although a tutor's academic background is important, I believe the ability to be an effective listener is invaluable. For this reason, patience is my number one priority as a tutor. I hope to not only assist a student in learning a new language, but also to ignite an enthusiasm for the subject, particularly for those whose difficulty with the language has caused anxiety or disinterest! Despite the fact that a tutor has the background knowledge, I will always see myself as a student, as there is always something new to learn! This makes teaching exciting and refreshing, as there is always something about the language to discover or rediscover.
