Experience
I attended Northern Illinois University to earn my bachelor's degree in probability and statistics, and my master's degree in the same topic. I then went on to earn a degree in secondary education at National-Louis University. I have 15 years of experience as an actuary, eight years of experience as a bookstore manager and youth teacher, and six years of experience teaching math in public schools. My tutoring topics include statistics, calculus, pre-calculus, geometry, algebra, pre-algebra, and general middle school math topics. I also help students prepare for the math sections of the ACT, SAT, and other admissions and assessment exams. My favorite subject to tutor is algebra because it used in everyday applications and it is logical, yet there many ways to solve problems and get the one correct answer. My other favorite topic is statistics because it provides information that can be used to make smart decisions. I'm laid-back with my students but we focus on the topic and are determined to find the right answers. I find the many students know more than they think they do about math, and I like to show that to students to help them build confidence. I also like to show them that they can build on what they know to learn more math topics. This help students improve their opinion of the discipline. When I have free time, I enjoy reading, playing music, learning languages, camping, and canoeing.
