EducationI am currently a student at Northwestern University majoring in Learning and Organizational Change. I have a 3.8 GPA in courses with a heavy writing component (most classes I take).
ExperienceThere are two components to a powerful personal essay, the kind of essay they look for in college apps and cover letters: eloquent form and unique content. Most essay tutors focus on the former. Is your grammar correct? Are your sentence structures awkward? Can you say the same thing in less words? These questions, of course, are important, but they can be answered by just about anyone who has taken a college-level English course or a very well-taught AP English class.
The difficult part of a student's personal essay is figuring out how to express the unique qualities that make a person stand out, especially if you're applying to college. College admission officers get thousands, no, millions of essays every year. What makes yours any different? Just having good writing certainly won't get you noticed. You need a story, but not just any story. You need a story that's uniquely and powerfully your own, and that's where I come in.
As a tutor, I bring in considerable teaching experience, having tutored my classmates on English for five years, but I also have spent the past two years developing talent in a national non-profit organization, first as a leadership development director and then as the National Vice President. In my programs, I teach students how to develop and leverage their personal experiences to succeed at their goals. Naturally, I use this exact same process to teach students how to write effective personal essays by using stories that are uniquely and powerfully their own.
Ask yourself these questions: does your child (or you) not know what to write about? Does he or she (or you) struggle with translating experiences into a moving essay? Do you or your child feel lacking in experiences to write about? If so, I'm the tutor for you. I can provide a comprehensive teaching experience, not just developing the formulaic skills of effective writing (i.e. grammar, punctuation, sentence structure) but also the intrinsic skills of communicating experience.
If you're interested, please contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org. I will respond to you within 48 hours. Looking forward to meeting you.
Additionally, I also have achieved much success in my extracurricular activities, both at a high school and college level. Most recently, as the National Vice President of a non-profit, I am on track to triple our programming, quadruple our fundraising to date, and manage a re-branding campaign, all while still taking a regular course load. If you'd like to find similar success in your extracurricular activities, feel free to contact me as well.
HobbiesI love basketball, football, video games, and long naps. I have big dreams, but I keep a sense of humor about my ambitions. I tend to smile and laugh quite a bit. If you don't want to have a good time while learning important skills, you won't like me as a tutor. =)
